ATLAS ORION 2x ANAMORPHIC PL

  • 2X Squeeze Factor

  • T 2.0

  • Super 35

  • Signature flare

The Orion Series from 2017 is a favorite mainstay of anamorphic lenses. This lens set has been made for the newest cinema digital cameras, having both vintage traits with modern intuitive mechanical functionality.

The Orions differentiate themselves from other anamorphic sets with their signature streak flare. What also makes this set unique is their waterfall bokeh. The set is also consistent with an incredibly fast iris size of T2.0. The Orions are also incredibly practical to use on set, with the entire set having the same T-stop and the front element housing being the same size(114mm) which makes lens changes a breeze.

The Orions cover super 35 sensors but with our Atlas LF expander this allows you to use the set on any of your favorite full frame cameras.

The Orions have been used on numerous projects in the last 5 years. Many of these projects being Oscar nominated such as Don’t Look Up and Babylon. The Lens set is so fast that it was chosen by Mike Flannigan for his limited series Midnight Mass, as it was able to “allow candlelight to do some real work”.

What is an Anamorphic lens?

There are two main types of lenses; those being spherical and those being anamorphic. Anamorphic lenses have asymmetrical optical curves that render more compressed images in its width and is stretched more in its height. This compression and stretching is determined by the squeeze factor. An anamorphic lens with a 2x squeeze factor will be two times as wide as the focal length on the respective lens. (Meaning a 50mm would have the field of view of a 25, but the depth of focus as a 50mm). However there are many different squeeze factors: 1.5x, 2x, 1.3x, 1.8x etc.
